Why Re-Sanding Your Block-Paved driveway Matters (and why DMS includes it)
What is re-sanding?
After pressure washing block paving, the fine kiln-dried sand between blocks is washed out.

Re-sanding replaces it, locking the blocks together.
Why it’s essential
Stability & load-bearing: Joint sand helps distribute weight so blocks don’t shift or sink.
Less weed regrowth: Tightly packed joints leave fewer gaps for seeds and soil.
Better drainage & fewer trip hazards: Correctly filled joints keep the surface even and free-draining.
Longer-lasting results: Clean + re-sand = finish that looks better for longer.
When to re-sand
Only when the paving is fully dry. Damp joints clump the sand and reduce compaction.
The sand we use
Kiln-dried silica sand suitable for block paving.
Colour: natural buff (compatible with most blocks).
For unusual joints originally filled with grit, we’ll match like-for-like where appropriate.
Our process (DMS standard)
1. Pre-treat & clean: We remove moss, algae and debris, then machine-clean the blocks.
2. Drying period: We allow the surface to dry fully.
3. Re-sanding: We brush kiln-dried sand across the surface and into the joints.
4. Compaction & top-up: We compact and top-up until joints are properly filled.
5. Optional sealing: On request, we can apply a suitable sealer to help bind the sand, resist stains and slow weed regrowth.
Pricing & what’s included
Re-sanding is included in our block-paving cleaning price as standard (after drying).
Sealing is optional and quoted separately.
FAQs
Does re-sanding stop weeds forever?
No. It reduces regrowth by closing gaps. For best results, apply a weed-killer 1–2 weeks before cleaning and spot-treat new growth after.
How long does it last?
Typical UK wear and weather mean joints may need top-ups over time, especially in high-traffic areas.
Will the sand blow out?
Some surface sand will disperse initially; that’s normal. Proper compaction and (optionally) sealing help it stay put.
Areas we cover
