FAQ – Soft Washing by DMS

1. What is soft washing?

Soft washing is a low-pressure cleaning method combined with specialist cleaning solutions to safely remove moss, algae, mould and organic staining.
It is the correct technique for render, cladding, walls and roofs, where high pressure would cause damage.

---

2. Do you soft wash roofs?

Yes — we provide a full roof moss removal and soft wash treatment.
This includes:

Manual scraping of moss using roof-safe tools

Treating the roof with a professional biocide (soft wash)

Killing remaining spores to prevent regrowth

Restoring the roof colour naturally over time

We do not pressure wash roofs.

--

3. What surfaces can you soft wash?

We soft wash:

Roof tiles (after scraping)

Render (K-rend, monocouche, painted render)

Cladding

Exterior walls

Fascia and soffits

Certain stone surfaces

Garden walls and shaded areas with organic growth

Soft washing is safe for surfaces that cannot withstand pressure washing.

---

4. What does roof scraping and soft washing achieve?

The process removes:

Moss

Lichen

Algae

Black and green staining

Organic growth that damages tiles

The biocide continues working for months, leaving the roof cleaner, brighter and better protected.

---

5. Is soft washing safe for roofs?

Yes. Roof soft washing uses very low pressure and relies on the biocide treatment to do the work, not force or abrasion.
It protects tile coatings, prevents water ingress and avoids the possible damage caused by pressure washers.

---

6. How long do roof soft washing results last?

Typical results last for many years, depending on:

Shade

Moss levels

Tile type

Weather exposure

Nearby trees

Many customers re-treat around every 5 years to keep the roof clean and moss-free.

--

7. Will soft washing damage my render or cladding?

No. Soft washing is designed specifically for delicate surfaces such as render, painted walls and cladding.
We use controlled low pressure and the correct solution strength to clean safely without removing coatings or causing streaks.

---

8. How long does soft washing take?

Most soft washing jobs take 1–3 hours, depending on the size and severity of staining.
Roof scraping may take much longer depending on roof size and moss levels.

--

9. Do I need to be home during the work?

No. As long as we have access to the property we can complete the soft wash or roof treatment while you’re out.

---

10. What areas do you cover?

We cover Bloxwich, Walsall, Aldridge, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Sutton Coldfield, Great Barr, Great Wyrley/Cheslyn Hay, Lichfield and all surrounding West Midlands areas.
